I'm Calling It

For anyone who might still read my occasional posts, you have probably noticed that they have become few and far between. So it goes with many things. There is just only so many minutes in a day. And unfortunately they seem to be taken up these days by more appealing activities than sitting and typing away. I've felt guilty for not keeping up my posts since the whole point of the blog was to record our goings on for posterity. But as I lay in bed last night trying (unsuccessfully) to go to sleep, a few things occurred to me. 1) Why am I feeling guilty? Keeping a blog was my own idea, so I'm not answering to anyone besides myself. 2) Maybe the blog served it's purpose wonderfully for a while, but now it is time to find another way of "keeping our record".

And so it is, with those two revelations (and still a little ambivalence), that I have decided to stop feeling guilty about not keeping current on my blog and to explore other avenues for recording our present for our future before it's too far past.

Here are my ideas:

1) Take more pictures. We've fallen into the stereotypical "second child" syndrome when it comes to picture taking. Not that the first child was oh so much cuter or more interesting or more loved, but for some reason our picture taking has dramatically diminished. (Could be our lackluster cameras, but what can ya do?) So I am resolved to start taking more pictures. After all a picture's worth a thousand words. And that's a lot of typing!

2) Regularly put those pictures into print. I made two wonderfully in depth volumes from the pictures and posts of Braxton's first year (on mixbook.com). His second year is a stalled work in progress. And he's now going on 4 1/2 years old! Eventually I will finish and catch up to the present, but for now, I will focus on the pictures at hand so that I can record the memories whilst they're fresh. And have a cute, cool book to show for it :)

3) Good ole' pen & paper. In writing some of the "travel log" things here on my blog I felt like often writing in my journal would be repetitious. However, I missed out on a lot of the more personal things that I didn't record here. So I am renewing my effort at journaling, trying to make it a day to day thing. I know from experience that this is so much easier said than done, but like with all of life's good habits, try, try and try some more.

I will be sorry to those friends & family members who followed this blog to keep up on some of our goings on, but we will just have to talk face to face! (Or phone to face, rather.) So whenever you wonder what's going on with the St. George Lays, just give us a call. Or an email. Or a Skype. Or a visit! I'll try to remember what we've been up to & hopefully get to hear about your life as well.
